HLA-A is a gene/antigen in the HLA system with 100s of documented alleles, and 68 common ones. It has psudeogene HLA-J,H.
HLA-A*3101 increased risk for carbamazepine hypersensitivity (HSS) and maculopapular exanthema in multiple studies. Amstutz et al. (2013) found odds ratio(OR) 26.4 for HSS.
HIV-1: A2(*0202, *0205, *0214), A28(*6802) decrease risk, A23 increases.
HLA-A29 is in nearly all BSCR cases, 95.8% vs 7% in controls. Transgenic mice had features of BSCR.
HLA-A29 is in linkage disequilibrium with hemochromatosis-producing H63D form. Having both results in higher CD8+ cell count. Cardoso et al. (2002)
HLA-A*0206 was the only HLA-A,B,C allelle with significant association to Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
HLA-A may be associated with type I diabetes.
HLA-A2 homozygosity is associated with Alzheimer's.
HLA*0201 has OR 0.73 for MS in the study of International Multiple Sclerosis Genetics Consortium and Wellcome Trust Case Control Consortium 2 (2011).
