rs6836703 is one of several tightly linked SNPs in the ART3 gene found in a study of ~400 infertile males to be associated with somewhat increased risk of the type of male infertility known as non-obstructive azoospermia. The odds ratio reported for rs6836703(A) carriers is 1.34 (CI:1.11–1.63, p=0.0025).[PMID 18266473OA-icon.png]

An almost equivalent ART3 SNP is rs14773, for which it's also the minor allele ((C) in this case) reported to represent increased risk for azoospermia and which is in tight linkage with rs6836703. Two other ART3 SNPs, rs11097230 and rs17001385, also achieved statistical significance, yet for them, the minor alleles were associated with reduced risk for azoospermia.[PMID 18266473OA-icon.png]
