rs8179183 is a SNP in the leptin receptor LEPR gene.

In a study of 101 mostly Caucasian patients prescribed the atypical antipsychotic risperidone, carriers of a rs8179183(G) allele were less likely to gain significant weight compared to rs8179183(C;C) carriers, as assessed by physiogenomic analysis of corresponding weight profiles. Two other SNPs, rs6837793 and rs705381, were also significantly associated with weight profiles in these patients.[PMID 17199131]
