Leprosy
From SNPedia
Leprosy was formerly a dreaded infectious disease whose victims were ostracized, but it can now be treated and cured. The 23andMe blog [Spittoon] reports that the following SNPs are associated with altered risk of leprosy in people of Asian descent:
- rs602875; G allele 0.67 odds
- rs42490 in the RIPK2 gene; A allele 0.76 odds
- rs6478108 in the TNFSF15 gene; T allele 1.37 odds
- rs1873613 in the LRRK2 gene; C allele 0.81 odds (only for the multibacillary form of leprosy); LRRK2 is also associated with susceptibility to Parkinson's disease
- rs3088362 in the CCDC122 gene; A allele 1.52 odds
- rs3764147 in the C13orf31 gene; G allele 1.68 odds
- rs9302752; C allele 1.59 odds
SNPs in these genes are associated with susceptibility to leprosy [[1]] and other diseases:
